The University of Jamestown has named Brian Mistro as its new athletic director, while Tom Dosch will return as the Jimmies’ head football coach.

UJ announced the leadership changes Monday.

Mistro is a University of Jamestown alumnus and has served as head football coach since 2019. He graduated from UJ in 2009 after serving as a team captain and two-year starter at safety. UJ says Mistro also is pursuing a Doctor of Leadership degree at the university.

As athletic director, Mistro will serve on the president’s cabinet and oversee the university’s athletic programs.

Dosch moves into the head football coach role after serving as UJ’s associate head coach. He previously led the Jimmies from 2004 through 2007. During that stretch, Jamestown won 25 games, captured a Dakota Athletic Conference championship, and made back-to-back NAIA playoff appearances.

After his earlier run in Jamestown, Dosch spent 10 years as head coach at Northern State University. UJ says he won 53 games there, earned NSIC Coach of the Year honors in 2014, and led Northern State to an NSIC North Division title in 2015.

The changes come after UJ announced in late May that Athletic Director Austin Hieb had accepted a deputy athletic director position at South Dakota State University.
