Tom Mix from the NDHSAA reports that three former North Dakota high school track standouts are competing at the NCAA Division One National Championships in Oregon this week, starting Wednesday.
Paul Olson, a Kindred graduate, is representing NDSU in the decathlon. Kelsie Belquist, a New Rockford-Sheyenne graduate, is running the hurdles for Nebraska.
Locally, former Jamestown Bluejay Anthonett Nabwe is representing the University of Minnesota. Nabwe is a five-time state champion with JHS and is now on the Bowerman Award watch list; she continues to break records on a national level. She won the conference title for hammer throw in May. She will compete in both the women’s shot put and hammer throw in Eugene.
UPDATED 6/15:
RESULTS & FINISHES, VIA NDHSAA:
– Nabwe finished national runner up in the women’s hammer throw (73.15 meters, 240-0 feet) to earn All-American First Team honors.
– Belquist finished fifth in the women’s 400 meter hurldes (55.34 seconds) to earn All-American First Team honors.
– Olson finished 18th in the men’s decathlon (7,185 points) for honorable mention All-American status.
– Nabwe finished ninth in the women’s shot put (17.40 meters, 57 feet, 1 inch) to earn All-American Second Team honors.
– Belquist & Nebraska’s 4×400 meter relay team had the 10th fastest time following the prelims (3:30.34), but missed the finals by one spot.
