A new public health initiative has brought a new wave of pilot projects to the state, in hopes of making it the healthiest in the nation.

The North Dakota Monitor reports that the Multi-Partner Health collaboritive, the first organization of its kind in the U.S., has awarded its first $10,000 grant out of a $150,000 grant the collaborative received from the Common Health Coalition earlier this year. This grant is part of a wider project that aims to identify strengths and gaps in public services and increase access. The first grant will be used to map and identify family support programs across the state to identify service gaps and lay the groundwork for future family resource centers. Another goal is to cancel out redundant services from different organizations so their limited funding can be utilized more efficiently.

The collaborative operates on a four pillar system to maximize health: strengthening workforce, cultivating wellness, expanding access and connection, and building community resilience. Under different “goal groups” that focus on one of the state’s priorities, pilot projects will begin to roll out in June and July. The Monitor reports that the projects could take on many forms, like a hypothetical project testing strategies that combat cardiovascular disease. At the end of the year, groups will share what they learned and discuss how to scale the operations in other communities across the state.
