Before the backyard fire pit, campfire or early Fourth of July fireworks come out, North Dakotans are getting the usual summer reminder to check the fire danger map first.
The state’s NDResponse map tracks burn restrictions, fire danger ratings, Red Flag Warnings and local fire declarations. State officials say conditions can change rapidly, so it’s worth checking before burning or planning outdoor activities.
That state map has low fire danger for Stutsman, Barnes, Foster, LaMoure and Dickey Counties as of Monday morning’s check due to recent precipitation.
Local burn rules apply, especially inside city limits or at campgrounds.
So before lighting a burn pile, fire pit or anything that leaves sparks behind, check the map or call your local fire department to make sure you aren’t breaking any laws.
