Game And Fish Plans Holiday Weekend Boating Patrols In North Dakota

Jun 29, 2026 | 11:22 AM

If the Fourth of July weekend includes a boat, a lake and a cooler, North Dakota Game and Fish has one friendly reminder: make sure somebody sober is driving.

Game and Fish says wardens will be joining other law enforcement agencies July 3rd through 5th for Operation Dry Water. It’s a national campaign focused on boating under the influence.

That means more patrols, more officers, and more compliance checks likely on all major waterways in North Dakota.

Game and Fish says alcohol and drugs raise have been the cause of many accidents and injuries on North Dakota Lakes during previous holidays. The department is reminding boaters to stay sober and to use life jackets when they are on or near the water, and they are required in boats.
