CNBC released their ranked list of U.S. states and their propensity for business Thursday. North Dakota is sitting below average according to their metrics; the state is ranked 29th, down from the 25th spot in 2025.
North Dakota received two failing grades: an “F” for workforce and “F” for access to capital. The state also got a D on infrastructure, economy, and technology and innovation. However, it received an A+ for cost of living and for business friendliness, and a B+ finish for both quality of life and education.
Ohio was ranked the top state this year after a yearslong rise.
