The North Dakota Game and Fish Department announced it is offering just over 39,000 deer tags for the upcoming season, dropping more than 3,000 licenses compared to last year. Biologists blame a shortage of wildlife habitat, which has dropped from 4 million acres to just 1 million acres over the last two decades. WDAY reports that over 80,000 hunters have applied.

Hunters who missed out in the first round have until midnight tonight, Wednesday, July 15th, to apply for the next lottery.
