Statewide Fire Emergency Declared in ND; National Guard Placed on Standby

Governor Kelly Armstrong has declared a statewide fire emergency as hot, dry summer conditions rapidly expand drought across North Dakota.

The declaration activates the State Emergency Operations Plan and orders agencies like the Forest Service and National Guard to maintain high readiness to fight potential blazes. More than half the state is currently in moderate to severe drought, with another 36% classified as abnormally dry.

The fire emergency order remains in effect through December 1st.
