By Jacob Waltman, KSJB (Jamestown, ND) – On Saturday, October 31st, the quarterfinals of the Norths Dakota High School playoffs for Class A Football is set for kickoff. On KSJB Radio we will be broadcasting Ellendale/Edgeley/Kulm vs Ray/Powers Lake, pregame set at 12:30 pm, with kickoff at 1:00 pm.
Ellendale/Edgeley/Kulm Thunder (10-0)
Ellendale/Edgeley/Kulm simply dominated throughout the regular season this year. This year on the offensive side of the football the Thunder averaged 48 points a game and defensively only allowing just over 7 points a game. Although the Thunder were so dominate in the regular season, last week in the first round of the playoffs, Grafton gave them a run for their money and showed the rest of the class that EEK is not invincible, only winning 16-6. Last year in the quarterfinals, the Thunder were upset by Bottineau, losing in a close game, 36-35, and EEK will be looking for a different result this year.
Ray/Powers Lake (8-2)
Ray/Powers Lake came into the playoffs with two quality loses against Northern Cass, losing 25-21, and another lose to Velva-Drake Anamoose-Garrison, losing 36-20. Outside of those losses, Ray/Powers Lake averaged 37.5 points a game on offense and only just over 8 points on defense. Last week, in the first round, Ray/Powers Lake defeated Bowman County in what would be considered an upset, winning 20-6. Last year in the playoffs, Ray/Powers Lake lost in the first round to Killdeer and will be looking to keep advancing in the playoffs this year.
Keys to the Game
- Ellendale/Edgeley/Kulm – EEK needs to get their offense going sooner this week. Last week it took time for them to get going and allowed Grafton to stick around. Defensively EEK looked as good as always, only allowing six points, and they will need to be great again, as Ray/Powers Lake does have the ability to put points up on the scoreboard.
- Ray/Powers Lake – Ray/Powers Lake also should look to get their offense going quickly. Last week EEK take some time to get going offensively and if that is the case again this week, Ray/Powers Lake needs to take advantage of every second of it.
