North Dakota has joined 17 other Republican-led states defending President Trump’s recent executive order to end automatic citizenship for babies born to non-citizens in the U.S. The order, signed in January 2025, is currently blocked by a federal court and faces legal challenges from 22 Democratic states. North Dakota’s Attorney General Drew Wrigley supports the change, while critics including the ACLU call it unconstitutional and exclusionary.
