SWAT team called to arrest man in Thompson, North Dakota

A Regional SWAT team was activated for an incident in Thompson on Sunday.

According to a press release form the Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at approximately 10:00 a.m. when GFSO officers went to serve an arrest warrant at 528 Fourth St. No. 10 in Thompson. 44-year-old Joseph Arthur Rud had an active arrest warrant for violating conditions of bond. According to the release, deputies tried knocking for several minutes and Rud did not come out, and they could hear him barricading in another room. Eventually, Rud exited the apartment and was taken into custody without incident.

According to the release, deputies found a loaded handgun in the residence. Rud was arrested upon suspicion of preventing arrest on a felony charge and felon in possession of a firearm.
