The NFL is officially back and teams are making their way back to training camp in preparation for the 2025 NFL season. Most teams’ rookies and veterans have reported and its time to get to work. In the NFL Training Camp Recaps we’ll give you a quick look at some headlines that have making their way through the NFL whether it involves a player, what an organization is doing, or god forbid an injury.

  1. The “Honey Badger” Calls It a Career.

After 12 years in the NFL Tyrann Mathieu known for his nickname and play style as the Honey Badger has decided to call it a career. Mathieu was drafted to the Arizona Cardinals out of LSU, where he spent 5 years, before making stops in Houston, winning a Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs, and finishing off his career with the New Orleans Saints. Mathieu finishes his career a Super Bowl Champion, a 3x All Pro Selection, a 3x Pro Bowl Selection, and was named to the NFL’s All 2010’s Team.

Is response to the retirement the New Orleans have already found a replacement per reports, the Saints plan on pursuing free agent safety Julian Blackmon.

2. Washington Commanders Missing Wide Receiver to Start Camp

Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin has yet to report to camp after him and the team have failed to come to a new contract agreement. McLaurin has noted many times throughout the offseason that the process of getting the deal done has been frustrating thus, why he has yet to report to training camp.

McLaurin and Washington are both playing an interesting game. After a contract year last year with new quarterback Jayden Daniels, McLaurin has went from being a Top 20 wide receiver in the league to a Top 15 candidate after nearly setting career highs last year in catches, yards, and touchdown catches in just one year with Daniels under center. McLaurin will also have some competition for targets after Washington trade for San Francisco 49ers multi-tool wide receiver Deebo Samuel. Will a contract be done? Or will McLaurin seek a new destination if he doesn’t get the money he wants.

3. New York Giants Name a Starting Quarterback

Not much to a lot of peoples surprise, a new starting quarterback has been named in New York, and as expected its Russell Wilson. Head Coach Brian Daboll announced on Wednesday morning that Wilson will be the Giants starter moving forward, which means a 3-way quarterback battle will take place during training camp for the backup position. Candidates for the backup job are Jameis Winston, rookie first round draft pick Jaxon Dart, and Tommy Devito.

4. Chicago Head Coach Sets a Goal for Second Year Quarterback Caleb Williams

New Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson has set a goal for his second year quarterback Caleb Williams as he takes over the Bears organization for the first year. Johnson has set the goal for Williams to complete 70% of his passes this season, and throw for 4000 yards or more. Williams showed some very impressive strides last year in a mess of a season for the Chicago Bears including his head coach being fired. With a new head coach that offensive minded, and supporting cast around him, Williams SHOULD be able to get close to these goals. Coach Johnson acknowledged it isnt an easy goal to achieve but its what they will strive for as training begins in Chicago
