John Deere announced it has acquired GUSS Automation, a California-based company specializing in autonomous sprayers for orchards and vineyards.
GUSS develops machines that can be remotely supervised by a single operator, with one person managing up to eight sprayers at once. Using GPS, vehicle sensors, and proprietary software, GUSS machines navigate under dense canopies with precision, reducing labor costs, operator error, and material waste.
The acquisition builds on a joint venture formed between the two companies in 2022. John Deere plans to expand GUSS’s global reach and further integrate its technology with Deere’s precision agriculture systems, including Smart Apply for targeted spraying. The sprayers will continue to run on John Deere Power Systems engines and be sold exclusively through Deere dealerships.
