Administration Mulls Over Potential Economic Aid to Farmers

By Seth Dunlap Sep 16, 2025 | 7:46 AM

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is considering whether farmers may need new economic aid this fall as trade disputes, record harvests, and inflation put pressure on farm incomes.

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said soybean sales to China remain stalled, while a projected record U.S. corn crop could drive prices even lower in an already weak market. Rising input costs for fertilizer and seed are adding further stress, leaving many producers facing another year of potential losses.

Rollins said the USDA is monitoring markets daily with Congress and will evaluate the need for additional assistance. She added that the agency is also reviewing fertilizer markets to ensure farmers are treated fairly and to explore possible relief options.
