MDA Urging Farmers Connected to Hansen Mueller to File Claims

By Ryan King Nov 21, 2025 | 7:43 AM

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture is urging farmers who sold grain to Hansen-Mueller Co. and have not been paid to immediately file claims, as the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Nov. 17. Hansen-Mueller, which operates in multiple states including Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota, is undergoing a court-supervised sale of its assets after widespread reports of non-payment to farmers.

Investigations in several states found unpaid grain transactions, including nearly $2 million owed to Nebraska farmers and about $300,000 owed in North Dakota. Farmers with grain in storage must contact USDA, while those seeking compensation for unpaid grain sales in Minnesota can apply through the state’s new indemnity fund.

The fund provides a pathway for Minnesota farmers to recover losses as the company’s restructuring process continues.
