An Arctic chill is gripping eastern North Dakota, with dangerous cold expected to last into the weekend.
The National Weather Service says a Cold Weather Advisory is in effect for Jamestown and Stutsman County, with dangerously cold temperatures threatening people, pets, and livestock.
Forecasters expect lows near four below zero into Saturday morning, with wind chills potentially negative 25 or colder, creating a risk for frostbite on exposed skin. Saturday will remain cold, with highs only a few degrees above zero and continued dangerous wind chills.
Cold conditions are expected to continue into Sunday before slowly becoming more mild early next week.
There is little risk for snow in the James River Valley during this cold period, with only infrequent flurries at most expected. That could change by mid-next week when another winter weather system is expected to affect he upper Midwest.
Officials urge residents to limit time outdoors through the weekend, dress in layers, and check on vulnerable people, pets, and livestock.
