Matt Perdue has been elected the tenth president of the North Dakota Farmers Union, becoming the youngest person to lead the organization at age 33.

Raised on a family farm near Ray, Perdue has been involved in Farmers Union since his youth and most recently served as NDFU’s government relations director before resigning to run for president. He succeeds Mark Watne, who led the organization since 2013 and did not seek reelection.

The leadership transition comes as other agricultural groups in the state, including the North Dakota Farm Bureau, have also recently selected new presidents.

Perdue’s election occurred during NDFU’s annual meeting this month, which drew more than 600 members and included policy debates, leadership elections, and youth recognition. Delegates adopted a 2026 Program of Policy & Action, and approved resolutions addressing farm policy, rural health care, trade, and tax credits, and selected representatives for the upcoming National Farmers Union convention.
