Life-Threatening Cold Weather Forecast Until Sunday in Eastern North Dakota

A Winter Weather Advisory has given way to an Extreme Cold Warning across southeastern North Dakota.

The National Weather Service expects life-threatening wind chills as low as 55 degrees below zero possible for an extended period across the region, beginning Thursday morning and lasting through Sunday morning.   Air temperatures will approach 20 degrees below zero during this time.

The James River Valley is in the center of the coldest predictions, with the NWS cautioning that it will be extremely dangerous to be outdoors without protective gear.

The Department of Transportation is also reminding travelers to keep emergency kits in their cars, and do not travel in vehicles even short distances without access proper extreme-cold attire.   High wind speeds of up to 50 miles per hour could impact some parts of eastern North Dakota on Thursday and Friday, making travel for high profile vehicles hazardous.
