North Dakota’s tax commissioner is officially running for another term.
Republican Brian Kroshus announced Wednesday that he is seeking reelection as North Dakota Tax Commissioner in the 2026 election. The announcement was made in a press release to media outlets statewide.
Kroshus was appointed to the position in 2021 by former Governor Doug Burgum, then won a full term in 2022 by a wide margin. Kroshus served five years on the Public Service Commission before becoming tax commissioner, including two years as chair.
Kroshus’s campaign says has overseen the state’s tax administration during a period of strong oil revenues and budget growth, with a spokesperson saying his focus is on fiscal responsibility, transparency, and taxpayer compliance.
Kroshus is a Fargo native and North Dakota State University graduate. He previously served as publisher of the Bismarck Tribune from 2005 to 2015.
No challengers to Kroshus have yet emerged in the Tax Commissioner’s race.
