An 88-year-old North Dakota man is dead following a multi-vehicle collision with an oversized load on Highway 85 Wednesday afternoon.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports the accident occurred at approximately 2:31 p.m. near mile marker 58, south of Belfield. Authorities say the victim, driving a 2005 Chevy pickup, was traveling southbound when he failed to maneuver past a northbound oversized load consisting of a puller truck, a pusher truck, and a pilot vehicle.
Despite the transport team’s attempt to move as far right as possible, the pickup struck a beam on the trailer and collided with the rear axles before losing control and hitting the pilot vehicle. The drivers of the other three vehicles, hailing from Tennessee, Idaho, and California, were not injured.
