North Dakota State Capitol Building
A high-stakes situation began at 2:00 p.m. today at the North Dakota State Capitol, in which an individual’s life hung in the balance. The North Dakota Highway Patrol and the Bismarck Police Department were tasked with coordinating the response to a man, armed with a pistol, threatening his own life.
As of 5:55 p.m., the NDHP reports the incident has been resolved safely. Updates to follow.
Initially, the NDHP ordered the public to avoid the area, though there was no perceived threat to residents. To reduce disruptions in the area, employees within the Capitol and surrounding state buildings were told to remain in secure locations until an “all-clear” was issued via the NDHP. Law enforcement negotiators worked toward a peaceful resolution, according to a release.
