Law enforcement agencies successfully cleared a bomb threat at the local Walmart late this morning after a search determined the report was not credible.
The threat caused a brief store closure and area schools sheltered-in-place as a precaution.
At approximately 10:22 a.m. on April 22 at the Walmart located at 921 25th Street SW, a Walmart employee called to report that an explosive device had been placed in a package within the store and was set to detonate within an hour.
Walmart, as a private business, has protocols in place to address situations like this, a “Code Blue” was issued, prompting a store evacuation so law enforcement and management could conduct a thorough sweep of the building. The store was closed for 70 minutes. After the closure, nothing suspicious was found and the threat was deemed non-credible, and operations returned to normal.
Out of an abundance of caution, area schools were placed into a shelter-in-place during the investigation. This was lifted by 11:30 a.m..
