North Dakota has awarded a major tourism grant to Black Leg Ranch near Sterling.
The state Commerce Department says Black Leg Market and Eatery at Black Leg Ranch received a $1.5 million Destination Development Grant. That was the largest single award in this latest round, which distributed $4 million statewide.
Commerce says the project includes new guest cabins, full-service RV sites, and a market and eatery on the ranch property. The state says the grant will also help build out guided visitor experiences, including UTV tour infrastructure and other activity areas tied to wildlife viewing, ranch activities and visitor services.
The grant is part of North Dakota’s Destination Development program, which lawmakers funded to grow tourism experiences and attract more visitors to communities around the state.
Black Leg Ranch is on 17,000 acres of land that includes Buffalo habitats and the ghost town of Britton. The ranch is situated on a wagon trail the owners say was used by travelers in the 1800s, with an abandoned post office and old railroad trestles.
