The U.S. Forest Service announced will waive most day-use recreation fees on Saturday, June sixth, for National Trails Day.
The waiver applies to standard recreational sites on national forests and grasslands. In North Dakota, that includes Forest Service-managed areas such as the Sheyenne National Grassland near Lisbon and the Little Missouri National Grassland in the western part of the state.
The free day does not cover everything. Camping, cabin rentals, reservation services, special permits and some concession-operated sites may still carry fees. The Forest Service says National Trails Day is also meant to encourage trail work and volunteer projects.
Visitors are encouraged to check their destination before heading out, especially with site rules, access conditions and fire restrictions changing through the season.
