Jamestown Moves Forward With Northeast Bike Lanes Test Route

Jun 2, 2026 | 9:14 AM

Jamestown is moving ahead with a pilot project for shared vehicle and bicycle lanes in the northeast part of town.

The City Council approved a shared-lane pilot project Monday night for vehicle and bicycle traffic along 8th Avenue Northeast, between 13th Street Northeast and 19th Street Northeast.

The plan is not for a separated bike lane. It would use signage and pavement markings to show that drivers and cyclists are sharing the route.

The council voted to also allow an alternate connection from the multi-use path entrance near 7th Avenue Northeast to 19th Street Northeast.  The city engineer would need to evaluate that plan.

The proposal moved through the Public Works Committee last month. City officials were still reviewing final layout details and cost estimates for the paint and signs.

The route is intended to improve connections between existing bike paths near TRAC, Ave Maria and the Jamestown Reservoir area.
