Running of the Pink returns to Jamestown this Saturday.
The annual fundraiser race for breast & cervical cancer research, awareness, and support will take runners through a course on the south side of Jamestown. There is a 10k run, a 5k run, and a 5k walk. There’s also a ‘virtual’ race where participants take part online instead of physically racing.
This year is the 19th annual Running of the Pink, an event put on by the RM Stoudt car dealership in Jamestown. Stoudt’s Jamie Walton says the race is approaching a half million dollars in charitable giving in the events history.
“That first year donations were maybe a couple thousand dollars,” Walton explains. “This year we’ll be pushing $40,000 to $45,000.”
Walton says Saturday’s race may break attendance records, with over 700 racers set to take part. Registration will be open Saturday morning for last-minute signups.
“Registration will open at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday,” she says. “We will be there bright, cheery, and smiling with all the coffee in the world!”
Extreme weather is impacting eastern North Dakota this week. Although the wind and thunderstorms are expected to ease up by then, there’s the possibility this year’s race will be impacted by weather. Walton says the race will happen in the sun, rain, wind, or whatever Mother Nature has in store.
“Rain or shine, will be there. Thankfully, the last few years have been gorgeous.”
Running of the Pink will be held this Saturday, June 6 in Jamestown. On site registration begins at 7:30 a.m., with the first race beginning at 9:00. More information can be found at RunningOfThePink.com.
KSJB Radio & MIX 93.3fm will be broadcasting live from the course from 7-11am, with coverage planned on MIX 93.3 during the entire morning and KSJB broadcasting from 9:30am-11am.
