NORTH DAKOTA STATE PATROL — On Saturday, July 18, the North Dakota State Patrol will conduct a sobriety checkpoint at a predetermined location in Ward County. Saturation patrols will be conducted following the checkpoint.

As of June 30, 2026, there have been 45 fatalities on North Dakota roadways. Nine of the fatalities (20%) were related to crashes involving alcohol.

Sgt. Coby Hubble, ND State Patrol Northwest Regional Sergeant stated, “The State Fair is a time for making memories, not life-changing mistakes. As traffic increases and alcohol is more prevalent, the North Dakota State Patrol will conduct a sobriety checkpoint to encourage safe, responsible decisions. We want everyone to enjoy the fair and return home safely at the end of the day.”

The North Dakota State Patrol is committed to the Vision Zero strategy which aims to establish a culture of personal responsibility and that every driver needs to consistently make the responsible choice to always drive sober or plan for a sober ride home. Results from this planned enforcement will be posted to the ND State Patrol website the week following the enforcement.
