The University of Jamestown’s Student Senate is preparing for its annual Trick-or-Can food drive set to take place on Sunday, November 1st, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. KSJB’s Payton Gall sits down with student organizer and Community Outreach Committee Chair Nathaniel Cloyd, who spoke about how the campus community mobilizes to tackle local food insecurity across Jamestown:
“For a while, UJ Senate has been collecting food for community outreach for charitable purposes. It reflects the university’s commitment to general virtue… when the date comes for a couple of hours, students come around, we divide Jamestown up, and all of the sports teams go around.”
Students will be knocking on doors directly, but residents can also leave bags of donations on their front porches for pickup. All proceeds directly benefit Community Action Region VI. Organizers hope to exceed last year’s record-setting numbers: nearly 7,000 items and $500 in cash.
