The North Dakota kid has just gotten closer to home.
With the Minnesota Vikings’ latest moves at quarterback, the team has made transactions to bring in former North Dakota State Quarterback, and North Dakota native Carson Wentz.
The Vikings traded current backup Sam Howell to the Philadelphia Eagles, and cut another veteran quarterback Brett Rypien to make room for Wentz who will be projected to be new starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy’s backup as the Vikings enter the 2025 season.
Wentz was selected number two overall in the 2016 NFL Draft to the Philadelphia Eagles, where he helped the Eagles get their first Super Bowl win, while also making stops as a journeyman backup for the Washington Commanders, Indianapolis Colts, Los Angeles Rams, and most recently serving as the backup to the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes.
A positive move for both parties, the Vikings have a well-seasoned veteran quarterback to lean on incase things go wrong with McCarthy like injury, or if he is not ready. And Wentz gets to play for the team he cheered for while living in Bismarck, North Dakota.
Minnesota will kickoff its official 2025 season on September 8th on Monday Night Football when the team will travel to Chicago to take on NFC North Division Rival Bears.
