Governor Kelly Armstrong appointed West Fargo School District Business Manager Levi Bachmeier as North Dakota’s next Superintendent of Public Instruction on Tuesday, October 21. Bachmeier will assume the role following Kirsten Baesler’s Senate confirmation as assistant secretary of elementary and secondary education at the U.S. Department of Education. In a news release, Armstrong praised Bachmeier’s decade of K-12 leadership, including service on three state education boards and as education policy adviser under Governor Burgum. Bachmeier, a West Fargo native and Concordia College graduate, has served as West Fargo’s business manager since 2019 and previously taught high school social studies with Teach for America. He says he’s “grateful for Governor Armstrong’s trust” and believes North Dakota “can have the best school system in our great nation.” Bachmeier will serve through the November 2026 election when voters will choose who completes the four-year term running through 2028.
