Heavy Snow & Winds Return to North Dakota This Week

By Seth Dunlap Feb 16, 2026 | 6:02 AM

Heavy snow and winds are expected to impact North Dakota and much of the upper Midwest much of the week.

Impacts will begin to be felt on Tuesday night in the James River Valley.  The National Weather Service currently expects 3” to 6”  of snowfall between Tuesday and Thursday in the Jamestown area.   Areas to the north and east could see even more snowfall, but the NWS says the system remains unpredictable.

Winds will begin to pick up Tuesday afternoon, when rainfall is likely to begin areas of Stutsman County and eastern North Dakota.   Wind speeds will reach up to 30 miles per hour on Tuesday, with increasing wind speeds into Wednesday.

The unseasonably-warm weather will dissipate by Tuesday night, and highs in the upper-teens to 20s are expected for most of the rest of the week in southeastern North Dakota.  Temperatures in Jamestown could eclipse 30 degrees on Wednesday night, then fall back down with highs in the teens and more snow expected into the weekend.

The worst driving conditions are expected late Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, but if the system intensifies or stalls around our area those forecasts could rapidly change.   Residents are likely to receive Winter Storm alerts this week, and should prepare for those worsening conditions.
