Carrington Rainbow Gardens is breaking ground today on accessibility improvements at the public garden. The project is run by a non-profit organization.
The event begins at 4:30 p.m and is expected to be attended by local leaders and is open to the public. Organizers say there will be community question and answer session, where residents can ask about specifics of the project. There will also be pizza provided, and remarks expected from project and city leaders.
The groundbreaking festivities are expected to last about three hours.
The project recently received support through AARP’s Community Challenge grant program. Plans call for smooth concrete walkways and places to rest, making the garden easier to use for older adults and people with mobility concerns.
Organizers say project has been many years in the making and required multiple fundraising efforts, with assistance from multiple grants.
The first of multiple construction phases will begin this week.
