Heat will continue to be dangerous across southern North Dakota today, with an Extreme Heat Warning in effect until 10:00 p.m. Tuesday. The National Weather Service in Bismarck says that expected afternoon temperatures in the mid-90s hold heat index values as high as 105 degrees due to humidity impacts. In Jamestown, the heat index is expected to be around 103 degrees at the peak.
Temperatures in northern ND will remain hot through Thursday, but things will likely cool down slowly over the weekend and into next week.
There is a chance for scattered thunderstorms across northern ND tonight. Though severe weather is not expected, the NWS says a few stronger storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain.
