NDSU Football: Bye Week, Conference Championship Break Down

Nov 6, 2026 | 1:54 PM

By Jacob Waltman, KSJB (Jamestown, ND) – The NDSU Bison football team is in their first year in the FBS division and to many college football fans around the country have done surprising well, but NDSU fans have known all along that they belonged. NDSU already has their sights set on conference titles, as NDSU currently has a record of 7-2 and sits forth in the Mountain West Conference. The Bison hold a win over the current number two in the conference, Wyoming, but have loses to the number 1 and number 3 in conference, New Mexico and UNLV. Even though NDSU sits forth in conferences there is a path to getting in one of the top two spots and reaching the conference title game. Wyoming plays both New Mexico and UNLV. It would be in NDSU’s best interest if Wyoming would be able to lose to New Mexico and beat UNLV, because UNLV plays New Mexico in a couple weeks, and UNLV would also need to drop that game. If that plays out New Mexico would stay undefeated and stay at number 1 one, but UNLV would three conference losses dropping them to forth in conference, Wyoming will have two conferences loses but NDSU would have the tie breaker over them with their 28-0 win over them , dropping Wyoming to third in conference. Leaving NDSU only one job being to win out against some of the weaker teams in the conference after their bye in, Hawai’i, NIU, and San Jose State.  If you’re a Bison football fan on the bye week, be sure to cheer on Wyoming this week against UNLV, then be cheering New Mexico the following week when the play UNLV. This college football season has been full of upsets and big shifts in the top 25, if NDSU is able to win the conference championship, they would have a compelling argument for them being the best Group of Six conference champion and getting the automatic bid in the College Football Playoff. Until then NDSU needs to take care of business like we have become so used too them doing!
