Eastern North Dakota is experiencing severe impacts of a fast-moving system that has pushed rain, heavy winds, and intense precipitation through the area.
The National Weather Service’s radar showed extreme conditions moving northeastward through Barnes County around 4 p.m. The diagonally-stretching system was large enough to cover the entire swatch of eastern North Dakota and into northern South Dakota. The Ashley, Napoleon, and LaMoure areas also reported intense rain and a short period of possibly damaging high winds.
The most severe parts of the system should rapidly move through our area by the overnight hours, with Minnesota likely to feel impacts into Thursday morning.
The storms should give way to sunny skies and seasonably mild temperatures in the mid-70s from Thursday to Friday. Another round of thunderstorms is expected Friday, with better weather now forecast for the weekend.
