Preliminary storm reports from the National Weather Service’s Storm Center show no tornados formed in North Dakota during the Wednesday, despite multiple super cell formations near Valley City, Ashley, LaMoure, and elsewhere.
The worst hail was reported in Mekinock, north of Grand Forks. The preliminary report also did not list a severe wind report in North Dakota for that same period.
Stutsman County experienced brief thunderstorms, but recorded only five-hundredths of an inch of precipitation at the Jamestown airport. The highest wind gust reported was 27 miles per hour.
The winds were not nearly as severe on Wednesday across that state, after speeds were estimated up to around 95 miles per hour near Belcourt and around 90 miles per hour south of St. John during Tuesday’s storms.
The NWS reported two likely tornado formations on Wednesday evening in Tripp County, South Dakota. Extreme weather chasers on social media were active throughout the afternoon and evening with live coverage of what appeared to be multiple large funnel clouds in northeast South Dakota.
Jamestown is expected a mild day Thursday with increasing clouds, a high near 79, and calmer westwardly winds and breezes.
Another chance for showers and thunderstorms returns Friday, before warmer and breezier weather builds into the weekend.
