PSC Gives Final Approval To Jamestown-To-Ellendale JETx Transmission Line

The North Dakota Monitor reports state regulators have given final approval to the proposed Jamestown-to-Ellendale transmission line.

The North Dakota Public Service Commission voted unanimously today to approve the siting application and permit for the 345-kilovolt JETx Transmission Line.

The Otter Tail Power and MDU Resources project would run roughly 90 miles through Stutsman, LaMoure, and Dickey counties. The line would use towers up to 150 feet tall.  The companies say the project is needed to improve electric reliability in the Jamestown region.

The project has drawn opposition from landowners and townships along the route, with concerns about farmland, roads, easements, eminent domain, and local control.

That fight is not over. A legal challenge from landowners and townships is still pending before the North Dakota Supreme Court. Justices heard arguments Tuesday, but have not yet issued a ruling.

The North Dakota Monitor has in-depth reporting from Jacob Orledge on the decision.
