Fireworks are part of the Fourth of July for a lot of people, but they are not allowed on every public recreation area.
The North Dakota Game and Fish Department are reminding people that fireworks are prohibited on state wildlife management areas. That includes areas adjacent to Pipestem Dam and Arrowwood Prairie Park, Chase Lake and Leo M. Kirsch in Stutsman County, George Karpen in Foster County, Clausen Springs in Barnes County, and Cottonwood Creek and Seth Gordon Marsh in LaMoure County.
Jamestown Reservoir is on federal Bureau of Reclamation land with rules for prohibiting people from using or possessing fireworks or pyrotechnics anytime, unless they have a permit or are in a designated special-use area. The Reservoir is administered by the Stutsman County Board of Park Commissioners under a federal agreement.
Game and Fish is also making a holiday camping adjustment. At wildlife management areas that normally prohibit camping on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, overnight camping is allowed June 30 and July 1.
Visitors should still check posted signs, campground rules, and local fire restrictions before the holiday.
