North Dakota Game and Fish’s holiday boating enforcement effort begins Friday.
Wardens will be out Friday through Sunday for Operation Dry Water, a national campaign focused on boating under the influence.
Game and Fish first announced the added patrols earlier this week. Now, with the Fourth of July weekend almost here, the department says boaters should expect more officers, compliance checks, and sobriety checks in busy areas. That includes anyone heading to Jamestown Reservoir, Pipestem Lake, or other area water this weekend.
In North Dakota, it is illegal to operate a boat with a blood-alcohol level of .08% or higher. State rules also prohibit boating while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Game and Fish says alcohol remains the leading contributing factor in recreational boating deaths. The department is urging boaters to pick a sober operator before getting on the water and to have life jackets ready for everyone on board.
