NDSU Extension says recent wet and humid weather is raising crop disease concerns across North Dakota.
The latest NDSU Crop and Pest Report says the risk of scab in small grains has increased. The risk is considered high statewide for susceptible varieties.
Scab, also called Fusarium head blight, can hurt both yield and grain quality in wheat, durum, barley and other small grains.
Canola is also on the watch list. With canola blooming in parts of the state, NDSU says the crop is in a key window for white mold infections. Hot weather may slow the threat somewhat, but NDSU says the risk remains elevated as long as rain stays in the forecast.
NDSU says growers should keep watching crop stage, variety risk, and field conditions when making disease management decisions.
