A barn near Emerado was destroyed by fire early Saturday morning.
The Emerado Volunteer Fire Department says crews were called around 1:13 a.m. on July 4th to the 2500 block of 17th Avenue Northeast in rural Grand Forks County.
Firefighters found flames in the second story of the barn. As crews prepared to attack the fire, part of the structure began to collapse. The fire then spread through the rest of the barn, and embers started small grass fires nearby.
Fire departments from Grand Forks Air Force Base and Larimore were called in to help. The Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office, ambulance crews, and Nodak Electric also assisted.
Crews had the fire fully out around 5:45 a.m.
The barn was built around 1905 and was considered a total loss. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
