Judge Considers Permit Challenge for Planned 25,000-Cow North Dakota Mega-Dairy

The Dakota Resource Council and their representation argued in court Monday that the Department of Environmental Quality failed to adequately review pollution threats from what is planned to be North Dakota’s largest dairy operation. Riverview LLP’s 25,000 cow Herberg Dairy in Traill County represents a significant amount of manure that must be managed to limit environmental impacts. Attorneys for the state and Riverview defended the environmental permit, and say a rational, lawful process was followed.

Judge Susan Bailey took the case under advisement and did not issue an immediate ruling.
