Cheryl McIntyre, former long-time music teacher at Jamestown High School and current secretary of the JPS Music Boosters, joined Payton Gall on KSJB for an interview (listen above) about the upcoming Mark Schultz Community Concert, put on by the Music Boosters.
The concert is set to take place on Friday, October 16th at the Jamestown High School Auditorium, featuring band and orchestra opening ensembles, and the headliner: Dove Award-winning musician Mark Schulz. Thrivefest attendees may recognize him, as he previously performed at the Jamestown festival.
McIntyre spoke about how state budget constraints and rising costs have limited what music programs have been able to offer, a threat that departments around the state have been grappling with.
Matt Odin, community member and supporter of the arts, proposed a benefit concert to raise money to fill that funding gap.
Odin and McIntyre’s goal is to raise funds for Jamestown’s cherished music programs like band, choir, jazz band, jazz choir, and orchestra, among others. Support for this concert helps raise money for instruments & equipment, music scholarships, summer camps and climics, student performance opportunities, and enrichment for K-12 music programs, according to the event flyer.
This Friday’s events include a 5 p.m. VIP meal and meet and greet with Mark Schultz (McIntyre hinted at a private concert that may be included in this $100 VIP ticket), 6 p.m. opening performances from band and orchestra ensembles, and the 7 p.m. main concert, in which the Jazz Choir will open the show.
Tickets are $35 for adults and $25 for students, available for purchase in advance at New Age Fitness and Unison Bank, and at the door.
