As the region deals with lingering snow from the first round of the storm, the National Weather Service says the probabilities for snow exceeding 12 inches has increased, and Jamestown is in the epicenter, with anywhere from 9 to 17 inches expected Friday through Saturday.

This morning, residents will see areas of fog and freezing drizzle in the west, and light snow to the east. Later this morning through Friday morning, there is a medium-to-high chance of freezing rain along the North/South Dakota border. Friday through Saturday, heavy snow accumulations are likely; there is a 90% chance of at least 6 inches, and a low-to-medium chance of 12 inches or more in the southern half of the state. The forecast for Saturday afternoon shows gusty northwest winds, which the NWS says can cause significant blowing snow and reduced visibility in south-central and eastern regions.

Road conditions are already deteriorating as the system moves in. Visibility may be reduced at times, with wind, fog, and freezing drizzle impacting the state. The NDDOT and the NWS recommend that residents complete their holiday travel before the bulk of the heavy snow arrives Friday afternoon.

Stay tuned–the Winter Storm Watch may be upgraded to a Warning as the track of the storm becomes more certain.
