Elkin Gomez via the Stutsman County Correctional Center
A 26-year-old Seattle man accused of shooting McIntosh County Sheriff Steve Delzer in the hand has been charged with attempted murder.
The incident began Thursday, three miles southwest of Kulm in Lamoure County. WDAY’s Matt Henson reports that officers initially checked on Elkin Gomez along Highway 13 near the county line, then followed him as he traveled toward Kulm. Henson reports that at some point, everyone exited their vehicles and gunfire was exchanged.
Additionally, Elkin Gomez faces a charge for aggravated assault for allegedly hitting a McIntosh County Deputy in the head with a tire jack. He is also charged with reckless endangerment for firing shots at officers.
Reports show that prosecutors aim to classify Gomez as a dangerous special offender, which could significantly extend his sentence.
Gomez is currently being held in the Stutsman County Correctional Center in Jamestown on $1,000,000 bond.
