A $10,000 grant will help fund improvements at the Stutsman County Fairgrounds in Jamestown.

The Jamestown Community Foundation announced the award Monday, with the money going to the Stutsman County Fair Foundation for improvements to the Melland Building.

The Melland Building is used during the Stutsman County Fair and for other activities throughout the year including graduation parties, sports banquets, and holiday events. Fair officials say the project will improve access and usability, while refurbishing and modernizing parts of the structure including the restrooms.

The Jamestown Community Foundation was established in 1983 and currently is managed by a board including four executive directors from the Jamestown Chamber of Commerce and 11 other members.   They are a non-profit that supports fundraising efforts for area organizations.

The Stutsman County Fair Foundation is also a nonprofit organized to support improvements to the fairgrounds and expand access and awareness of the annual event.  The grant comes ahead of this year’s Fair, which runs June 24 through June 27 in Jamestown.
