Memorial Day services are scheduled across Jamestown, Valley City, and several surrounding communities today.
The Jamestown Patriotic Council starts its program at 9 this morning at the Gladstone Inn. The remembrance service includes a speaker, a Drum and Bugle Corps and recognitions. A wreath-lowering follows at Nickeus Park Bridge, with additional services planned at the Fort Seward and Jamestown cemeteries. A luncheon begins at 11:30 at the All Vets Club with special memorial services in the afternoon.
In Valley City, military honors begin at 9 at Hillside Cemetery, followed by stops at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Oriska Cemetery, St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Memory Gardens, Woodbine Cemetery and Eagles Riverside. The Valley City Community Band and Valley City High School Band will perform indoors at the Eagles Club at 11:30, with lunch starting at noon.
Other verified services today include a 9:30 program at Sacred Heart and Fairview cemeteries south of Sanborn, a 10:30 service at the Pingree Community Center, and guard ceremony at the Leal Cemetery at 11:00.
