Though North Dakota is not necessarily known for its warmth, an incident on I-29 yesterday showed what high heat can do to our roadways.
According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, extreme temperatures caused I-29 near mile marker 64 to quickly expand and buckle. The NDDOT and local law enforcement assessed damage and guided drivers slowly through the area near the I-94 underpass.
The NDHP says that the pavement may expand and buckle quickly as a result of high heat, which creates dangerous driving conditions. All lanes of I-29 have reopened to regular traffic as of 8:15 p.m. Wednesday.
