A New Town man was killed early today in a two-vehicle crash in Mountrail County.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the crash happened just after midnight on U.S. Highway 2 about five miles east of Palermo.
Troopers say a 2008 GMC Sierra was traveling south on the 67th Avenue Northwest when it failed to yield to an eastbound Ford Expedition on Highway 2. The front of the Sierra struck the rear driver’s side of the Expedition, causing both vehicles to lose control and leave the roadway.
The 22-year-old New Town man driving the Sierra was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers say he was not wearing a seat belt.
The 59-year-old Minot woman driving the Expedition was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries.
The NDHP says it was raining at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation.
The death marks at least the 28th of the year, and the 10th in the last month, on North Dakota roadways.
