The Fort Seward Wagon Train is underway this week in Jamestown.
The annual living history event runs through Saturday, June 27, starting from the Fort Seward Military Post at 615 10th Avenue Northwest.
Officials say the family-oriented event has been held since 1969. Participants travel by covered wagon, walk, ride horseback, camp outdoors, hear history talks and stop at known historic sites along the route.
Organizers say people do not need to own or ride a horse to take part, though registration for this year’s wagon train is full. You can sign up for the 2027 wait list on the Fort Seward Wagon Train website.
Wagon Train leaders say the event is meant to preserve and share North Dakota’s pioneer history, while giving participants a hands-on look at life on the prairie.
